Hockey Coach 101

This year, Mark is playing his first year of hockey. He's quite excited, and so far loves it.

I decided that the best way to get involved was to sign up on the coach roster. Well a couple days ago I heard that I'm officially one of the assistant coaches.

Tonight was our first practice. Turned out our head coach couldn't make it, so myself and a couple of the other coaches took on the task. None of us have any experience coaching, so it was an interesting night.

Luckily, on the other half of the ice, was a seasoned coach with his kids, so he basically ordered the drills for our kids and we coached them through it. At the end of the night, we had a scrimmage against the other team, and it was a bunch of fun watching and skating with 10 aimless kids, congregating like bees on a honey bear.

All in all, it was a great night. I'm jazzed about coaching. It's great skating around, mentoring these little guys, helping them skate, hold their stick, handle the puck, and on and on. What's even better, is that I get ice time with Mark, get to follow his progress, and most importantly, do something we both love doing....together.
