T2 Platform is being retrofitted with ColdFusion 8

ColdFusion 8 is out, it's hot, and we got it on order for our T2 Platform at http://www.protraining.com/. After upgrading to MX7 only 8 months ago, here we are again already, spending more cash again to upgrade our servers to the latest version. But this time, it's well worth it...

The latest version of ColdFusion brings a LOT of great new, powerful features. Now I don't want to get into any ASP.NET / PHP / ColdFusion debates about which web development platform is the best and why, because at the end of the day, I believe its the end result that counts, and providing the application provides all the features, stability and scalablility that your client requires, I don't really care what you use.

But let me tell you, for rapid app. development, ColdFusion 8 has some pretty powerful new features that provide awesome functionality to your web application without the need to reinvent the wheel. I don't think I know of any other web application servers that provide as healthy a featureset as ColdFusion 8. Here are some of my favorites:

  • New Adobe PDF doc features (pdf creation, form field population, pdf manipulation)
  • New Ajax features for creating Ajax tools
  • New interactive debugger
  • On demand E-Learning presentation builder (although I'm curious to see how much overhead this requires)
  • ZIP file manipulation
  • Server Monitor diagnostics
  • Image manipulation object

I have to say, after the takeover of Macromedia by Adobe in 2005, I was a bit leary of ColdFusion's future product development path, but with a beefy release like ColdFusion 8, I am quite confident that Adobe takes its web server application development just as serious as it's design tool software.
